Poor Site Speed

My website aphrodite-massage.co.uk is suffering from some speed issues with loading etc. I believe this is because the website is pretty image heavy and has lots of different galleries etc.

I am now going to change over from a flash gallery (which was part of the theme) as I can see that there are issues when displaying on iphone, ipad etc. but I really want to know is

1) What would people recommend as the best plugin for speeding up a site ?

2) Are there any coding issues to look at ?
