After trying different plugins and multi sites I came across ploylang and what a saviour. It works a treat!!
Even putting the flags in the menu bar is great.
Some suggestions I would like are:
-
How can I put the flags on the right hand side of the menu bar or better still in the top right hand corner of the header (using child theme of twentyeleven)
-
AS another user suggested is it possible to have translations of picture data
http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/polylang/
You can style the position of the flags in the menu using the .lang-item class. Here is an example I gave for twenty ten:
http://wordpress.org/support/topic/plugin-polylang-how-to-insert-flags-into-menu-in-custom-positions?replies=5#post-2800859
I did not check but I guess it is very similar for twenty eleven.
If you want to put the language switcher anywhere in your theme, read the documentation about the template tag pll_the_languages.
Picture data will be translated in v0.9 coming at the end of the summer

Hi all,
My mod is to create a custom widget container - positioned wherever suits my needs - and place the Polylang widget there:

Then, as mentioned by Chouby, styling the flags is much easier, cause they' re already positioned within the page structure.
