PodPress and Feedburner for Podcast settings (7 posts)

I want to know if it is the right setup and mostly, why the artwork of my podcast doesn't appear in iTunes.
    My blog : http://www.rocharchambault.com

I run WordPress 3.0.4. I have installed the FD Feedburner plugin first and setup an account at Feedburner.

I have installed the Podpress plugin. In the General Feed Settings of Podpress I wrote the Feedburner link.
    http://feeds.feedburner.com/rocharchambault

So, the way I understand this, iTunes reads the Feedburner link and the Feedburner link reads the WordPress feed that PodPress does. Is that it ?

Should I do this another way ? Should I give iTunes only the Podpress feed ?

Any help would be very appreciated!! Thanks

the artwork of my podcast doesn't appear in iTunes

Do you mean for instance this iTunes page:
    http://itunes.apple.com/ca/podcast/roch-archambault-musique-et/id409947584 ?

Your configuration of the Feed settings seems to be right. The Feed is valid. You can try it yourself: insert the feed URL here: http://validator.w3.org/feed/
Furthermore the RSS image and the iTunes:image (http://www.apple.com/itunes/podcasts/specs.html#image) are having the right sizes.

Maybe it is something else wrong with the image file. Try to save the picture with a different software program. Or try a completely different picture (only as a test). You may also try a 300x300 pixels picture. I know a blog/podcast which uses such a picture and it works. The image should update automatically in a couple of days.

So, the way I understand this, iTunes reads the Feedburner link and the Feedburner link reads the WordPress feed that PodPress does. Is that it?

    Yes, that is right.

Should I give iTunes only the Podpress feed ?

That is not necessary. iTunes (the client software and also the iTunes repository page) will show only the posts with at least one attached media file.

Hi! I did the image file once again. I hope it will work. I posted a new post/podcast yesterday, but still not showing on iTunes, even though it can be downloaded if we are subscribed. That's weird.

I will wait a few days to see if something is changing. Thanks!!

I just did an update of PodPress and now, no image and no new posts appearing in iTunes. In the new version of PodPress, there is no place where I can put the Feedburner link. Any idea?

    Hi,

it is not necessary to put the feedbuner URL into a input field at the Feed/iTunes Settings. Only if you plan to change the URL you have used for the iTunes Store, you should insert the new Feed URL into the field "the new Feed URL" which has now this new name and is (and was) part of the iTunes:new-feed-url options.

Your Feed looks still fine, is valid and up to date. The only thing which shows no image and not the last episode is the iTunes Store page. I have juast subscribed via this deprecated looking page and my iTunes client downloaded the last episode (Marie-Pier Hébert : un premier album 11.01.2011).

I don't know why this iTunes Store page is not up to date. But your podcast Feed works - through iTunes too. Maybe you should wait one more day.

Or try to rename the new itunes:image file. That could also help (see: http://www.apple.com/itunes/podcasts/specs.html#image "[...]If you change your podcast’s image, also change the file’s name. iTunes may not change the image if it checks your feed and the image URL is the same.[...]").

    Regards,
    Tim

I just installed the last version of PodPress 8.8.9.1. Do I need to fill out the "new" bottom part? Everything is ok in the upper part. But, do I need to activate the feed in the down part and fill out the same information that is up? It's not clear, I'm new to this.

    Thanks again!!

You need to fill out or configure the podPress Feeds if you want to use them. For instance if you have used or want to use the http://www.rocharchambault.com/feed/podcast Feed then you should fill out and configure the settings for this Feed. These settings may differ from the settings for the main Feeds of the blog (upper part).
If you want to use the podPress Feeds, you need to activate them. After activating one of these Feeds or after you have renamed one of them you need to re-save the Permalink setting of your blog.

But if you have not used Feeds like http://www.rocharchambault.com/feed/podcast before and you don't want to use them now then you don't need to activate them.

    Regards,
    Tim
