podPress image customization (2 posts)

    I'd like to customize the podPress player. Is this possible?

    I'm talking about customizing beyond the options available in podpress player settings . E.g. using your own graphic, which when clicked upon plays the podcast. Or merely resizing the triangular play button to make it bigger.

    I'm guessing that this would require substantial hacking of the plugin, but I thought I'd check to see if it would be more straightforward.

    If you only want to replace the play button which you can see in Chrome and Safari web browsers instead of the flash player then you could override some of the CSS definitions which you can find in the file podpress.css
    The following lines define the button:

    a.podpress_play_button {
    	display:block;
    	width:32px;
    	height:32px;
    	background-repeat: no-repeat;
    	background-position: 0px 0px;
    }
    a.podpress_play_button:hover, a.podpress_play_button:focus, a.podpress_play_button:active {
    	background-repeat: no-repeat;
    	background-position: -32px 0px;
    }

    The icon is a background image with the file name play_button_dyn_v4_32.png (definition is in file podpress.js). You can find the image file in the images/ sub folder of the podpress folder. You may replace that file with a comparable one. Or you may try to override this particular CSS with a new definition of the URL of the file and the attribute ...!important;.
    However if you change the size of the icon you need to modify the CSS definitions above accordingly to the new icon size (and vice versa).

    You could also use CSS to customize the other podPress elements. A lot of them have class names which you can use to apply the rules.

    If you know a little bit about PHP and how-to use WP Filter Hooks you could write some filter functions (like described here) to modify the HTML structure of the podPress elements. You can read more about the podPress Filter Hooks in the readme.txt of podPress..

    It is possible to customize some elements without even modifying the code of podPress. But I guess there other things which are pretty hard-coded (like in /js/podpress.js).
