Plugins to achieve functionality of my current site (4 posts)

    Hi,

    I'm in the process of replacing my current website (rewardsforresearch.com) with a wordpress version. The main function of my site is to display medical trials (posts) by location (categories). I also show on the home page a list of all the locations (categories) as a means for navigating the site. I have 2 specific questions:

    1. What is the best way to setup a category page that shows a small standardised excerpt of each page in that category (similar to rewardsforresearch.com/qld.php)?

    2. Instead of showing the most recent posts for each category I would just like to flag each post as 'current' or 'expired', and have only the 'current' posts live, regardless of how many there are. Is there a plugin that does something like this?

    Thanks very much,
    Nick

    1. In your Category Template use template tag, the_excerpt() (instead of the_content())

    2. Not sure what you mean by 'flag' but again you can code your Category Template to show only 1 post with something like this just before your loop:

    <?php query_posts($query_string . '&posts_per_page=1'); ?>

    Hi MichaelH,

    Thanks for your response. By 'flag' I just mean to mark a post in the admin as either published or not published, and then show all the published posts. Currently in the admin I can't see any way to "unpublish" a post.

    Thanks,
    Nick

    Currently in the admin I can't see any way to "unpublish" a post.

    When editing a post, in the Publish module to the right of Status, click on the Edit link then select what status you want.
