[Plugin:NextGen]Getting started, but getting nowhere

HI All,

I am very new to WP, and trying to get the whole thing to work.
I am trying to get NEXTGEN installed on a domain. I have uploaded WP 2.7.1, and NEXTGEN. But I don’t seem to be able to change the permissions on the folders at my host, so resorting to using ftp to upload photos. Well I can chmod the folders and stuff via ftp but still get errors when I try to upload photos.

With regards to NEXTGEN gallery, where do you put the photos and thumbnails? Do they have their own folders? I have uploaded the plugin and also the rotator.swf, I am totally confused. I might desert the whole image thing actually…..
