I still cannot get this to work a half year later. How do I get the thumbnails to show up? I took all the templates files to my child theme and the default buddy press theme and it still doesn't work. Is there a competitor plugin? Or do you know why it doesn't work?

    Thanks

@Famous - sorry to hear you've had trouble with it. Just to clarify: is the issue that you can't get thumbnails for results, or that you don't get "related posts" results at all?

Have you chosen the template you installed under the "display" options in the YARPP options screen?

Display using a custom template file:

I chose thumbnail under YARPP settings and under the widget settings. But all that shows up under posts is:

    Related Photos

With no related photos and no wording? I waited a long time and have tried to be as patient as possible, however it just hasn't worked. I know you don't exactly get paid for this, but any help is much appreciated.

    Thanks

If it's not finding any related photos, it should print the words "no related photos." If you're not seeing that, then it's finding related posts but not successfully displaying the thumbnails.

I'm curious what HTML is actually being produced. Could you post a link of where you're seeing this?

I see. I just reviewed the template code, and what you're getting would be possible if has_post_thumbnail() returns false for each of your posts. Are you using WordPress's built in featured image function?

I have a standard wordpress install with buddypress and I am using a child theme. I googled "WordPress's built in featured image function" and found YD Recent Posts Widget. Would that be an easier solution? Or should I add something or delete something?

    Thanks

You should ask elsewhere in the forums about using WordPress's built-in featured image feature with BuddyPress and your theme. Adding a plugin should not be required to use it.
