[Plugin: Yet Another Related Posts Plugin] How do I add 'Related Posts' to show above posts? (9 posts)

I would like to have the title 'Related Posts:' show up just above the results. How do I do this?

Thank you for this simple plugin.

  2. @neeznoodle. Thanks for your question.

Are you currently seeing the "Related Posts" text? If so, then the improper placement should be completely controllable by updating your theme's CSS.

If you need to change where the related posts show up in relation to the content, or change the behavior of such titles, I recommend you manually add related_posts() to your theme, which will give you more control for the code. Instructions are in the plugin docs.

    Mitcho,

Thank you for the advice. I wasn't able to get it to work manually using the code given in the Read Me file but I did get it to work using <?php related_posts(); ?>

The reason may be because I used a different Related Posts plugin before this one and it used that code. Whatever the reason, it works and I'm loving this plugin!

    <?php related_posts(); ?>

Hmmm... I'm having the same problem. I couldn't find the instructions. (Or maybe they're just not detailed enough for me...) Where do I ad that text?

  5. @liasuzuki, I assume you're not converting from another related plugin or upgrading, in which case you should be able to use the plugin automatically without inserting that code into your templates.

Thanks for getting back to me, Mitcho.

Yes, that's correct. I'm not converting. I am able to use the plugin automatically, but it doesn't give a headline above the automatically inserted related post's title. I'd like to put the heading: 'related posts" or something to that effect.

Also... I installed the plugin "More From Google", which gives a pre-set google search of my choice at the end of the article. That seems to override your plugin. Do you happen to know if that's correct?

    Thanks,
    Lia

  7. Hi Lia,

You should be able to add that "headline" by changing your value for "Before related entries." The default value for this, for example (which may have accidentally been reset somehow) is "<p>Related posts:

". Let me know if that works for you.

Hm, odd, I can't seem to get More from Google to work on my blog at all, with or without YARPP... odd. Do you mean More From Google doesn't display properly if YARPP is on? Or does More From Google stop YARPP from displaying?

I have this plug-in installed and it's working fine. However, I want the words "Check out these related posts" to automatically appear at the top of the related posts.

    Check out these related posts

Where do I go to add this (editor, php template??) and exactly where does the code go?

    Thanks for the help.

  9. Hi @pscpress. Hmm... YARPP doesn't ever add the text "Check out these related posts"... its default settings will simply add a header with the text "Related Posts:".

Where you edit this text depends on whether you're using the "Automatically display related posts" option. Go to Settings > Related Posts (YARPP) and go down to the Display Options for web section. Find the "Automatically display related posts" option and see if it is turned on or off. If it's on, then see if the "Check out these related posts" text is in any of the fields below. If it's off, then you'll have to look at your theme.
