Why a new type of widget? (4 posts)

I'm looking to implement this into a pretty big network (thanks!), but I'm curious why you chose to have this plugin create a new type of widget, rather than adding rich text editing to the existing Text widget.

Was it just easier, code-wise? Or did you have another driving reason for an entire new type of widget.

    Thanks :)

Is there a plugin to add rich text editing to the existing Text widget?

wpvince: not that I've seen, but I'm debating between WYSIWYG widgets and looking at writing my own that adds rich test editing to the native Text widget, so was looking to get this author's thoughts on why he did it like he did

I suppose keeping the option of existing text widget to be 'plain' is useful, as WYSIWYG options can sometimes mess with code.
