The plugin updation process is completely handled by wordpress. I tried to get the issue as pointed by you by updating the plugin. This is what it showed
Downloading update from http://downloads.wordpress.org/plugin/wti-like-post.1.4.zip…
Unpacking the update…
Installing the latest version…
Deactivating the plugin…
Removing the old version of the plugin…
Plugin updated successfully.
Reactivating the plugin…
Plugin reactivated successfully
As you can see it went on smoothly. So not sure what went wrong in your case. As far as widget is considered, it will be removed if the plugin is deactivated or uninstalled. So if you have reinstalled the plugin, then obviously you need to assign the widget again.
thanks for replying…
just to clarify I also tried to deleted the plug in and tried to re-install but on the plugins page it didn’t give me an option to install, just details (?) furthermore I couldn’t reach your development page via the wordpress link hence my assumption that you had decided to remove the plug in by providing an update that deactivated it… but I really like it since it gives me a means other than views or comments to gauge popularity… so I was peeved
I just checked on my other site (which doesnt have the plug in installed as its not a plug in that’s relevant) and it gave me the option. I’ll try again (as I now have the plug in copied) and see if its an issue that only I’m experiencing.
it installed this time but it reset all the votes to zero 🙁
truth is i’m happy with the plug in as it is …
so copied the old plug in back
