[Plugin: WPtouch] Mobile theme refuses to show on front page (16 posts)

Viewing my site with WPTouch enabled on a mobile phone gets me my desktop theme. Clicking on links from there mostly gets me the mobile theme, but I can never get the mobile theme on my front page while using my phone.

Given that the front page (which is just my latest blog posts) is primarily how my users are getting to my site, this makes the mobile theming mostly useless.

    Hi,

That sounds like a cache plugin issue. If you're running a cache plugin, please add WPtouch's mobile user agents to the 'rejected user agents' area of the cache plugin's settings. Then, clear the cache plugin's cache and test again. The list can be found below (and in WPtouch's admin panel):

    Android
    CUPCAKE
    Googlebot-Mobile
    bada
    blackberry 9800
    blackberry9500
    blackberry9520
    blackberry9530
    blackberry9550
    dream
    iPhone
    iPod
    incognito
    s8000
    webOS
    webmate

WP Super Cache now has an option for optimizing compatibility with the free version of WPtouch. Give that a try.

Your homepage may be a custom post type or use a custom page template. WPtouch does not have the same native functionality to work with these as does WPtouch Pro.

If neither of the above apply, please post your url so we may have a look.

    Hi philapho,

The desktop theme is coming up on mobile devices at the time. So perhaps you still need to do the suggested configuration changes to WP Super Cache.

I agree, wp Touch works, but for a while I have problems with wp super cache, I'll see if there is an update and in this case I will give wp touch operation
    thank you

I'm having exactly the same problem.
WPTouch has never overridden the WP default page with or without any cache program. I have tried the above with no luck.

We have found that the WP Super Cache can be very persistent and clearing it manually via ftp is best.

@Culloden, if your home page uses a custom post type or a custom page template, the free version of WPtouch will be unable to override either.

The front page is a blog page with a style from the Suffusion theme. Two sidebars with widgets below the header and above the footer. Is this regarded as custom?

    @Culloden,

Please share the URL of the website with us and we'll take a look for you and see what the issue may be. Thanks.

From what I know of Suffusion, the homepage can be composed of many sidebars, as you noted. By default, WPtouch strips sidebars and their widgets to create its mobile experience. I see your WPtouch-powered blog content on your mobile homepage so I'm surmising that WPtouch is functioning as expected (meaning your sidebars are omitted).

The free version of WPtouch doesn't really offer a way to work-around. The Pro version will allow you to include your widget content or pull in sidebars as you see fit however a bit of custom coding is required.

This probably isn't what you wanted to hear but at least now you have more information to use.
