• I’m trying to use the new feature that lets you pre-add AD users, but in a multi-site installation. I assume it works fine with new users, but I need to get users that are in the system already working on another blog, but not assigned a role in the new blog yet.

    But it throws the error:

    Directory Authentication Error:
    * Could not create a new WordPress account because the directory username mcgeetho is already registered on this site.

So I’m back to looking them up and adding them manually in those cases. It would be nice if it could pull them in and assign them a role in one pass.

I’ll be adding a feature in the next version that is somewhat similar as I’ll need that functionality myself in a collection of sites my department is working on.

The goal will be to add a ‘Add Dir Auth user’ to the Users menu in the Network Admin area where you can choose the role AND the sites the new DA user needs access to. However, this will only be for NEW users.

Normal users (ie non-Directory Authenticated) cant be added as new users in a site if they already exist in the wordpress network. They have to be added to the individual sites as an existing user. The same applies to existing directory authenticated users.
