WP to Twitter
#url# Putting Weird Links in Tweets (5 posts)

I've just installed this plugin which seems to do exactly what I need, but when I use #url# it seems to tweet inconsistently different URLs each time. Some times I get "http://.com" and sometimes it cuts a few letters from the URL out. Other times, it seems to work perfectly fine. Any ideas?

My domain is GlueHC.com and you can see examples of this issue via this screenshot: http://www.thenewlanguage.com/temp/twitter-issues.png

    Thanks!

Is your website name (according to WordPress general settings) and your root domain the same? If so, I'd guess you're running into issues with the posting character limits. WP to Twitter does some automatic truncating to try and get Tweets under that limit rather than just be unable to post them, but it's not always perfect. One of the things which can be removed is the web site name, if included; if it's also part of your URL, that can be a problem.

Yes, my site name and URL are the same. Any way to disable that option and/or choose how to tries to trim the tweets? I activated bit.ly shortened URLs too... will that resolve the issue?

EDIT: Seems to be working fine for the URL with bit.ly but the @ mentions I add for the post are not being included in the tweet now and the test had plenty of characters left to spare.

There's no way to disable that right now - this isn't something I'd really anticipated.

When you say "plenty of characters to spare" what do you mean? WP to Twitter strictly limits to 140 characters; Twitter does not via the web, but their API does.

Wouldn't it make more sense to separate each of the strings, calculate the total characters, then shorten adequate characters from title and finally concatenate all of them to form the tweet?
