WP to Twitter
How to post alternate URL (7 posts)

I am using WP to Twitter and it's a great plugin.... However, I would like to change the default #url# behavior of posting a tweet with the url back to the WordPress Post.

I would like to point to a url on my main website. I believe that can be done by posting an alternate URL but I can't figure out how to do it and I don't see any posts or info on this.

    Please help.

    Thanks
    Ryan

On the settings page, there's a field where you can specify a custom field name which will hold your custom URL. Add a custom field to your post with that name and it'll post the URL you used.

Thanks for your response... I'm still struggling with this a bit.

Here is what I am trying to do.

I'm trying to pass a value like CUSTOM_URL to be used instead of the default URL (permalink).

    My 2 issues:

    1. I'm using Postie where I want to pass the CUSTOM_URL value along with my post via email. I am not sure how to pass this custom value. Would you know the syntax and how to include this with the post?

    2. From reading WP to Twitter instructions, I assume that if I was passing the custom value correctly, that I would be able to tweet it by putting the custom value within double square brackets, like custom_url . Can you confirm that this is correct?

I appreciate any help you can provide on this issue.

    Many thanks,
    Ryan

For your first question, I'm not sufficiently familiar with postie to know how to send custom fields with it. So, I'm not much help there.

For the second, if you're using the custom urlfield it will replace the #url# tag output.
Although you could also use double square brackets if you want to make sure it isn't passed through the URL shortening process.

I see the issue, but think its a bug... I am passing the custom value correctly from Postie because I can see the custom value in the post.

However, the custom value is not being included in the tweet. However, if I just click update, the update tweet has the custom value included.

For some reason, the custom value is being included in the "update when post is edited" tweet but not the "update when post is posted" tweet -- even though they have the same settings:

    #title# #post# [[goodcents-url]]

Is this a bug or a settings issue?

Thanks for your help with this.

fyi, I tried passing it as an excerpt as well and I see it capturing the value in wordpress but it is not including it in the tweet (unless I click update).

Seems to be an issue with getting the value for custom fields from the initial post.

Any thoughts or help would be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Ryan

I'd be happy to make a $50 donation if you can help me make this work.

Please let me know or I'll have to find another plugin.

    Thanks.
