WP-Table Reloaded
When viewing tables, the screen freezes for about 30 seconds (18 posts)

It's not when you open a single table, but at the very beginning when you view your first tables. I am viewing 10 at a time so that shouldn't be a problem it never was.

This freeze up has appeared since the last update.

    Hi,

are you talking about viewing table in a post or on a page or in the admin area, where you edit the content?

    Regards,
    Tobias

    Hello there,

Viewing tables in the admin area. There's an initial delay of 30 seconds where everything freezes, as it's loading all tables or something(although I barely have 300 tables).

After that initial delay it's all fine. I can view any page of tables etc.

    Thanks

P.S This is how it looks when it's frozen, as it's loading something:
    Screenshot

    Here's what firefox reported:

Warning: Expected ']' to terminate attribute selector but found ':'.
    Source File: http://e-sportbets.org/wp-admin/tools.php?page=wp-table-reloaded
    Line: 0

Warning: Unknown pseudo-class or pseudo-element 'first'.
    Source File: http://e-sportbets.org/wp-admin/tools.php?page=wp-table-reloaded
    Line: 0

Each of these errors or warnings is present twice.... any idea?

    Hi,

no, sorry, I have no idea where this issue originates...
Also, I have not experienced it before :-(

It could be a JavaScript issue, but unfortunately I'm not into the details of that code (as I did not write it).

    Regards,
    Tobias

    Hi,

I will try to downgrade to the most recently working version and see how that goes.

It really feels like a java problem, since Firefox used to bring out a message that "the script is loading very slow. Would you like to terminate it" or that sort of thing.

And what's interesting is once the initial wait is over, everything works fine.

Just to give u a bit of an update. Apparently this might be a firefox problem as well as Google Chrome has no problem loading 300 tables in 1sec while takes 30 sec for FF.

    Hi,

thanks for the follow-up! I'd be surprised if it really is a Firefox problem, but I'll gladly accept it if it helps to find the cause.
    Thanks for your further investigations!

    Best wishes,
    Tobias

Hello, I am having a similar problem with the freezing. I also have around 300 tables and receive this error:

A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped responding. You can stop the script now, or you can continue to see if the script will complete.

    Script: http://www.musicfestivaljunkies.com/wp-content/plugins/wp-table-reloaded/js/jquery.datatables.min.js?ver=1.8:93

When I hit continue to complete, everything seems to work.

Besides this glitch I'm having, this is an amazing plug-in!

    Hi,

yeah, this is also related to JavaScript having to work on a large amount of data.
That might be slow unfortunately with the current implementation, and that kind of stops the browser.
Nothing really we can, besides waiting for faster and more efficient JavaScript code :-(

    Best wishes,
    Tobias

I forgot to mention that this just started happening when I updated to the newest version of the plugin. I'm going to try and roll it back to version 1.7 and see what happens.

    Hi,

the DataTables library was updated with the update from 1.7 to 1.8.

So, while you might have success with the downgrade, I do not generally recommend it!

    Best wishes,
    Tobias

Yeah, I'll probably just make it worse rolling back. I did find I have the same results as xecutable with things working fine in Chrome.

Just to give u a bit of an update. Apparently this might be a firefox problem as well as Google Chrome has no problem loading 300 tables in 1sec while takes 30 sec for FF.

I also have found that I can't do an export dump. When I click on the button, it just goes to a blank screen. Not sure if the two are connected. I just performed a backup five days ago with version 1.7

    Hi,

you could try to manually update the DataTables library (from http://www.datatables.net) that is included with the plugin. WP-Table Reloaded 1.8 ships with DataTables 1.7, while DataTables 1.7.1. has been released shortly, with a few bugfixes.
Thus, it is possible that the described problem vanishes with that.
You would only need to replace on JavaScript file.

    Best wishes,
    Tobias

I can confirm that it's the amount of tables that lags the whole thing down. I have the plugin installed on few other sites I run with wordpress just to test out.

It's all fine on low amount of tables. However on my main blog I've got close to 400 already and the only way not to expirience delays is using Chrome.

For some reason Chrome and java work a lot faster than Firefox and java.

P.S: Upgrading the datatables to the latest version did not help.

The new versions of Firefox report this:

"A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped responding. You can stop the script now, or you can continue to see if the script will complete.

    Script: http://---------/wp-content/plugins/wp-table-reloaded/js/jquery.datatables.min.js?ver=1.8:93"

so I guess you were right that the problem lies in the datatables.

    Hi,

    yeah, thanks for the confirmation.

In the upcoming version 1.9, there will be a possibility to turn of DataTables on the "List of Tables" screen, so that this should then no longer be an issue.

    Regards,
    Tobias

Hi, version 1.9 is up thanks.

I just had to unmark the "List of Tables features: Yes, use the DataTables JavaScript features (sorting, pagination, filtering) on the "List Tables" screen." and although I got all tables in 1 page, they no longer freeze.

    Regards

    Hi,

thanks for the confirmation! This is exactly what that checkbox is for :-)
Good that it works for you!

    Best wishes,
    Tobias
