• Hello,
I have tried upgrading to version 1.9.1 but it messed up my website and I have lost my data.
I have deleted the table through Filezilla as it wouldnt let me use the original and tried adding it again through Filezilla as I cannot install through WordPress, but the plugin is not showing when I look at the plugins page in WordPress.
    Please could you advise?
Unfortunately, I am unable to install any plugins through the usual ‘Add New Plugins’ in WordPress (think this may be a hosting problem) so need to do it through Filezilla.
Any help would be much appreciated as this is a great table!
    Kind Regards,
    Julie

    Hi Julie,

I’m sorry to hear that you seem to have trouble with the plugin.
Unfortunately, I don’t really how what might be causing this.

Can you please describe, how exactly the plugin “messed up your website”? What is happening? Do you get error messages?

And: What version of WordPress are you using?

    Regards,
    Tobias

    Hi
    Thanks for your quick reply.
When I tried to upgrade, I got a ‘Fatal Error’ message that said it couldn’t uninstall the old version.
I then couldn’t go to any other page within the admin of WordPress as the error message kept coming up. The website also could not be viewed in a browser.
I contacted my hosting company and they renamed the plugin (not sure why?) and asked me to try installing again.
In the meantime, I changed the permissions on the plugin to 777 which at least allowed me to access the dashboard, and view the website in a browser.
The plugin was still showing so I tried activating it again, but nothing happened.
That’s when I deleted it using Filezilla and tried installing it again through filezilla.
I am using WordPress Version 3.0.5
    Thank you.
    Kind Regards,
    Julie

    Hi Julie,

that fatal error message like means that one of the plugin files got corrupted during the update. However, that corrupted file was still loaded everytime, so you kept getting the error.

By renaming the plugin folder, your webhost basically deactivated the plugin “by hand”.

Your table data should however not be lost as that is stored in the database and not in files.

When installing the plugin again, did you try with a “fresh” copy from a newly downloaded zip file (to fix that possible file corruption)?
If not, can you do that, and remove any old or renamed folders of the plugin before?

What happens then when you try to activate the newly uploaded copy of the plugin? Do you can get the error message? Can you then take a screenshot, so that I can see the entire error message?

    Regards,
    Tobias

    Hi Tobias,

Thanks very much for your detailed explanation – have learnt a lot from your response – much appreciated!
Didn’t realise my data should still be intact – great news!
I have installed a new copy of the plugin via Filezilla but it isn’t showing on the Plugins page in WordPress so can’t try to activate it.
It is definitely there is Filezilla!
I have changed the permissions to 777 (don’t know if that makes a difference?).

    Julie

    Hi again,
Don’t know if it makes a difference but just realised I am using version 3.0.1 of WordPress

    Hi Julie,

if the plugin is there in Filezilla, it must be showing in the “Plugins” list, everything else would mean that your WordPress is seriously broken.

Now, there’s one little thing in WordPress 3.1 that sometimes let’s the user think that a plugin is not there: It will only show 20 plugins in the list by default, while the rest is “hidden” behind paging controls.
So, just to be sure (and because you have now written that you are using WP 3.0.5 and 3.0.1 which confuses me): Are you using WP 3.1? If yes, can you check in the upper right part of the “Plugins” list if there are paging controls (arrow buttons) that let you navigate through the entire list of plugins?

    Regards,
    Tobias

Sorry for the confusion, I am using WordPress 3.0.1 – not the new version.
I have taken a screenshot of filezilla to show the plugin is there – how do send it to you?
It’s probably something really obvious that I’m doing wrong!

    Hi Julie,

    ok, thanks for the clarification.

Yes, please get in touch with me by email, you can find the address in the main plugin file “wp-table-reloaded.php” in the plugin folder.

That screenshot would be great, but it might be even better, if I could take a direct look at your server and WordPress Dashboard.

    Regards,
    Tobias
