I am using WP Super Cache with .htaccess redirection and preload mode.

All the tools I have tried (YSlow, Google pagespeed, Pingdom, etc) indicate that I need to leverage browser caching.

Scratching the surface a bit reveals that none of the image, css or js files have expiration specified.

Can WP Super Cache help with this?

Nope, this plugin only caches html pages, not images, css or js files. There are plenty of docs online for how to cache them correctly in the browser using .htaccess rules.
