• How do the rewrite rules work with expiration? I know WP Super Cache creates html cache files and uses mod_rewrite to rewrite requests to directly access those html cache files (without ever hitting a php interpreter). Assuming that’s correct (and please correct me if it’s not), it seems that expiration would never happen.

I would also like to know how this works.

Expiration does not occur when people grab super cached files.

However, note that the rules it uses have many exceptions. If somebody leaves a comment, for example, then they don’t get a super cached file anymore and hit the site directly. Then the php runs and expiration happens.

In other words, expiration rules don’t get run until something actually changes on the site, somewhere.
