I noticed that the .jpg images produced by WP Super Cache are on average TWICE the size and not as sharp as the originals.

In just one example the original .jpg went from 76KB to 167KB in the “word/wp-content/gallery/cache” folder!

I also tried this with the “Super Cache Compression” option enabled and disabled, but got the same results. Just to make sure I wasn’t crazy, I manually cleared the cache folder and let Super Cache create new files and the results were the same.

    Is anyone else experiencing this?

  • The cache can’t store jpeg files. Are you using WordPress MU? That using a php file to serve uploaded images.

    Whoops.. my bad!

I dug around a bit and it looks the single images are being generated by the NextGEN Gallery (I have this serving up a single image for the top of each post – i.e. [singlepic id=23 w= h= float=left])

    /word/wp-content/plugins/nextgen-gallery/nggshow.php?pid=23&width=h=&height=&mode=

    Sorry for the confusion.
