Images in Nggallery are shown as "not processed" under Smush it menu column, but there is no link to actually smush the image.
Unlike in the regular media library, no "smush it" action seems to be available.

I agree and just posted on this today. Not sure if Alex will take any action though. When he created the wp-smushit/nextgen-gallery integration he didn't created a script that would 'smush' all the previously existing images in nextgen-gallery.
That means only new images imported into Nextgen get 'smushed'.
