I don't know if you were aware of this plugin http://082net.com/tag/wp-slimstat-ex/ but I have been using it for years and only recently switched to your plugin because that other one isn't supported anymore and I was running into problems.

Maybe have a look at it for inspiration, I think it was the best stats plugin on the market until it broke.

Maybe you'l find some features you can incorporate into your plugin?

Well, that plugin was developed an extension of my original WP SlimStat back in 2006. I stopped developing mine for a while, and this guy came up with that version, which included a lot of nice features. Starting with WP SlimStat 2.0, I've been using his ideas and added them back to my plugin. Aside from the fancy jQuery stuff (which may cause security issues on the long run, and increases the server load by performing multiple queries in parallel), what features are you missing?

I didn't know you were aware of it so here is a more precise list:

    - one of the features I really like, not sure if it makes sense in your version, but still: http://screencast.com/t/BbGFtJ5b3gbd
you can hover over the headings and quickly access different views.

    - the ease of use when checking the pathstats (with the pathstats pin) http://screencast.com/t/HCT1FEzr

New contributors to this project are always welcome to join the effort. The functionality that you highlight in your screenshots, though, requires jQuery, and that's something that I'm not adding at the moment. I'll add it to my todo list, though.

    Thank you for your feedback,

I had another look at that modded plugin of yours and found soem other fearures I like but can't find in your plugin. would you please let me know if I was too dumb to find them or if they are not present in your plugin?

what I was looking for was the "recent" or "last" view versus the "top" one which your plugin definitely incorporates.

i.e. I would like to see "last accessed resources" currently I can only find "popular resources" which I guess is a "top" view.

also I'd like to have Traffic Sources sorted by date not only by %

    is this doable?

also I'd like to have Traffic Sources sorted by date not only by %

Hmmm, it doesn't really make sense to have the 'TOP' traffic sources (grouped by number of hits) ordered by 'date'. Date of which pageview in the group?

As for the rest, you can always write your own custom stats and 'hook' them to WP SlimStat ;) Or ask me to develop them for you on a freelance basis.

ok, I am having difficulties expressing my ideas so I'll try again:

simply said, I was interested in seeing the last visitors, the last resources opened and the last traffic sources as opposed to seeing the TOP visitors, the TOP resources opened and the TOP traffic sources.

    Does that make sense now?

And no, I am not a programmer, hence I was suggesting this to you, the plugin author, if it makes sense to you to include it in your plugin :-)

ok, just realized that I can find recent content under the content tab so basically only recent referring traffic sources is missing

That information is available under recent content as well, as far as i can see.

Are you talking about the content tab? I can't find any recent traffic sources there.
Are you talking about this tab: http://screencast.com/t/4XPnfKnhE

    I am really sorry but I can't find anything here => http://screencast.com/t/wrM3i6De1g

What I need is a view like this => http://screencast.com/t/pEsjjpQw
    can I find that somewhere?

If they are 'top' traffic sources, that means they are ordered by number of pageviews (or their percentage) by definition. You are looking for 'recent' traffic sources, which can be found in the 'real time' tab.

Ok, for whatever reason we are not on the same page.
I am looking for a list of recent traffic sources sorted by date not by hits.
    Just like this: http://screencast.com/t/pEsjjpQw

Can I find this somewhere in the plugin's interface? If yes, would you mind linking to a screen shot? I seem not to understand your hints where to find it.

    Thanks for your patience.

You may need to wait for 2.8.1 to be released, to get what you're asking for :)

Honestly I still can't find what I was looking for but nevermind it isn't that important. This is what I was missing, I actually activated WP Slimstat EX just to be able to create a screen shot, see here: http://screencast.com/t/C14BAwnr

    Here are some more suggestions:

    • Your plugin currently lets us add users manually for exclusion from tracking:

      Users
Enter a list of WordPress users you don't want to track, separated by commas. Please be aware that spaces are not ignored and that usernames are case-insensitive.

WP Slimstat EX solves this with a nice GUI: http://screencast.com/t/Wq9ZJ9UP0xcc

    • What else I am missing is i.e. to have the "recent search terms" be clickable so that clicking them opens a new window with the search, i.e. if someone arrived on my site with an unusual search term, i.e. "test search" I can click, and the new window will open with this URL: http://www.google.com/search?&q=test+search - this way I can quickly see how I was ranking for that search term?
    • I asked you a while ago if you could automatically clean out the "recent known visitors" and the "top known visitors" so that spammers are removed? Currently on my own blog, I am the only users and those stats are full of spammers...
    • Most importantly, is there a reason I see my own domain as the top traffic source? see here: http://screencast.com/t/X1DnX2rZ

Please don't get this wrong, I really like your plugin and if you add any of these suggestions I'd be grateful, if not, I still like it and will use it :-)

WP Slimstat EX solves this with a nice GUI: http://screencast.com/t/Wq9ZJ9UP0xcc

How often do you change those values? I may decide to add a nice GUI, but I think it is more important to optimize the engine and make all the reports more flexible. WP-SlimStat-Ex didn't have all the filters WP SlimStat 2 has, and I guess that's the main difference. What that plugin was doing with contextual dropdowns, WP SlimStat implements with a more flexible filtering system :) It's just a matter of learning how to use them (see the brand new contextual help for that).

to have the "recent search terms" be clickable so that clicking them opens a new window with the search, i.e. if someone arrived on my site with an unusual search term, i.e. "test search" I can click, and the new window will open with this URL: http://www.google.com/search?&q=test+search - this way I can quickly see how I was ranking for that search term?

Ovidiu, you haven't paid enough attention to the brand new Right Now panel, which does exactly what you're asking for here above :) It also lists the SERP position and other Google-related variables, to give you as much information as possible on your visitors. This functionality will be soon extendend to the other screens, with a detailed view of some reports.

I asked you a while ago if you could automatically clean out the "recent known visitors" and the "top known visitors" so that spammers are removed? Currently on my own blog, I am the only users and those stats are full of spammers...

WP SlimStat relies on third-party solutions to identify spammers. There's an option to ignore spammers, but you may need to install Akismet or other similar plugins to be able to mark those visitors as spammers and ignore them.

Most importantly, is there a reason I see my own domain as the top traffic source?/blockquote>

Not sure, that depends on your server configuration. But you can always decide to ignore those pageviews, if you like ;)

    Cheers,
    Camu

    • the GUI I mentioned allows filtering users by role instead of having to manually type in all the user names, one by one.
    • The right now tab doesn't show anything, ever.
    • re: spammers: a spammer arrives at my site and leaves a comment. your plugin now saves him as a known user. I mark his comment as spam and then it should also be removed from your known user list, that is what I was talking about.
    • Honestly, I don't see any reason to see my own domain as a top traffic source, it just screws up the stats. I've never seen any stats plugin that does that, I mean what is the purpose of that?

Good point, I will add this to my todo list :)

The right now tab doesn't show anything, ever.

Please update your local installation to 2.8.2, there was a bug that has just been fixed.

thanks for clarifying, I'll add this to my todo list.

Honestly, I don't see any reason to see my own domain as a top traffic source, it just screws up the stats. I've never seen any stats plugin that does that, I mean what is the purpose of that?

Indeed, I'll filter the user's own domain from that view.

in the RIGHT NOW section, whats meant by "Private IP" ?

and how come I see a visitor with 127.0.0.1?

    see here: http://screencast.com/t/JISjkM5beS

Please refer to the contextual help (in the top-right hand corner, it's a dropdown tab) for more information about that ;) It's under Advanced Filters. I'll add it to 'Definitions' as well, to make it even easier...

Ok, maybe I should have been clearer:

    • A private IP is usually the internal IP used behind a router and not on the internet, i.e. 192.168.1.15 see here too: http://whatismyipaddress.com/private-ip
    • A public IP is the IP that should be recorded by your statistics plugin.

AND as seen in that screen shot, there is only ONE way 127.0.0.1 will be recorded by your plugin namely if the server hosting the site where your plugin is installed is somehow internally accessing the site, otherwise 127.0.0.1 simply cannot end up in stats. So how can this be explained: 97-88-153-202.dhcp.mrqt.mi.charter.com (Private IP: 127.0.0.1)

YES, we completely agree! See my other comment please :-)
This might just be a misunderstanding due to English not being our mother languages but I am pretty sure I am right in this case ;-)

You're right, my bad. It should be called

    Originating IP Address:

the originating IP address of a client connecting to a web server through an HTTP proxy or load balancer.

In other words, it's the IP addressed the user was using behind the proxy.

I updated the definition in the code, and posted it to SVN.

    Thanks for pointing this out.
