[resolved] do I need a custom filter for this? (11 posts)

I am planning an ad campaign where I will use a few QR codes to promote specific products and am currently looking for a way to track their usage.

I searched around and found a few tutorials, mostly involving external solutions like using bit.ly URLs but the last one I found suggested using the Google Analytics URL Builder which I could use to create URLs like this for example:

    http://www.premaman.co.za/?utm_source=ad_source_01&utm_medium=qrcode&utm_campaign=qrcode_camp_01

Surely your plugin can also be used to filter for this, right?
Is this one of those situations where I need a custom filter or how can I track usage of these parameters? I'd hate having to switch to an external source like GA if I could do it with your plugin.

    Hi there,

WP SlimStat already tracks that kind of URLs, so you technically don't need any "custom filter" to monitor those visits. You may use whatever URL params you like, maybe something like:

    http://yourwebsite/target_page?fromqrcode

Then, in WP SlimStat, enable the filter where PERMALINK contains fromqrcode :) It's that easy, yes!

Not sure how this works. I entered my code in the filter box but what do I select from the "filter by" drop-down? see here please: http://screencast.com/t/7piyY8usS0Ua

No I didn't. I can still read it just fine.
    I hope I wasn't bozoed :-(

Do you see my answer in the notification email?

    Here it is again:

    Weird, now I see it.

I made a mistake (now fixed) in my previous message. You need to select 'PERMALINK' in the drop-down menu, and then whatever string you are looking for. It doesn't need to be utm_medium=qrcode, you can use any string you like, after the question mark ;)

Ok, the filter is applied but doesn't work.

here is how I set it: http://screencast.com/t/WNtrh6TY
then I click go and the result is: http://screencast.com/t/REoy8IL6p
but if I eliminate the filter I can see hits for that string: http://screencast.com/t/U9whSuVD

Change the filter to CONTAINS, not EQUALS ;) See my message here above.
