WP RSS Multi Importer
Changing how often feeds are updated (11 posts)

I'm trying to adjust the feeds to update more often (hard to tell how often they update right now but some won't update for hours). There is the option in the Cache & Conflict handling settings that I sent to 10 minutes. This says it should be how often the feeds are updated but it's not doing that.

Is there a way to change how often the feeds are updated? Also, I noticed when its posting the feeds its often clumping stories from a particular feed together (rather than putting them in descinding/ascending order). Thanks.

When the cache is set to 10 minutes, that means that after 10 minutes the next person to hit your page will bring in a fresh round of rss feed posts. If you want, in the next version I'll make it so you can turn off caching which means the rss feeds will always come in fresh (of course this means the page will load more slowly.

If you send me a link to your site I can maybe see what is going on.

Yeah, ideally I'd like it to refresh the feeds each time someone hits a certain page. I'm using the plugin for a news aggregator site - allthelatestnews.com

ok..if you see a few posts from the same source in a row, that's because they probably posted them at about the same time. My program sorts in a way that focuses on time and date. Send me the RSS feeds of that you think are causing a problem and I can try to reproduce that myself and see if this is a coding problem or just an artifact of how companies process there RSS feeds.

Well the main time I notice it is when added a new feed to a category (and the first time is draws in posts, they're all at the top). Here are a few that continue to be bunched together.

I'm still building the site so part of it could be there aren't a lot of feeds and certain sites are posting stories right after each other or releasing them on their rss feeds in that way.

Also, is there a way to disable the cache setting? I suppose it won't really be too much of an issue once the site is launched but I would like to have test it out without it.

Now, the feeds aren't updating all for me (been the same stories for at least 15-18 hours now).

First of all, here is what I see when I put in the feeds you sent

    http://screencast.com/t/MKqvrT0orL

I have entered the time, so you can see they are ordered by date and time. that several stories show up from the same source is due to the fact that they are posted with similar times.

I'm releasing an update today where you can set the cache parameter to 0. I'm not sure why you installation isn't updating but maybe that will solve it.

I've install the new version and and still working to see if it will fix the problem of feeds updating more regularly. The feeds are updating on the site but just appear to be doing so not often (maybe every few hours). I'm checking on my end as it could be doing with the cache plugin and the fact I'm using a CDN (I'm disabling both to make sure those are at issue).

the new version has a cache setting that says Turn off Caching. That ensures that all transient caches are deleted and the RSS feed posts are fetched each time the page refreshes (which means for a large number of posts, it will be slower since there is no caching). If you are using a CDN, it's very possible that is a source of the problem since I've heard from no other person about any problem with the plugin.

I'm still having problem with it not refreshing the feeds. I might try re-installing wordpress and everything as I'm not sure what the issue is. I made sure to turn off the caching in the setting but to no luck.

well, my guess is something is going on with your installation or something..if you can't get my plugin to work I'd recommend just deleting it and move on.
