Theme integration is absolutely different thing than wordpress and phpBB integration.
The phpBB it has it’s own template machine in the back end, and that’s why the plugin will never integrate themes. The themes to be integrated must be written from scratch for both applications, or if there is existing one (i.e.: for wordpress) to be re-writed for the phpBB. This way we made the theme for the http://www.wordpress-gr.org
Ok, if we take the theme system out, what about cross posting and use of the phpbb’s smlies and word *** system?
For now cross posting is not yet available on WP phpBB Bridge, but you can show user info, avatar, forum links and many other on WordPress. Also you can use the responsible Widget that display the latest topics from forums of your choice to WordPress.
Theme blending is one thing I miss from WP-United, even though it broke a whole lot.
It would require a phpBB mod to add hooks and insert the wp-header and wp-footer files into the phpBB theme. After that, it would require some pretty complex styling scripts to sort out styling issues between your wordpress style.css and phpBB theme css files.
Does this plug-in have a repository I could push such a feature to? This is a helpful enough function that I wouldn’t mind creating it myself. Though it might be easier to make a much needed phpBB3 -> bbPress script and just use bbPress 😛
