Hey there, I have been using WPU (WordPress United) for quite sometime. However, I am afraid that if I switch to your mod I may be loosing some functionality.

    WPU main website: http://www.wp-united.com/

My website that uses WPU: http://pixelsmashers.com/

Here are somethings I am mainly concerned with:

Existing cross posted forums and wp posts – I am afraid if I switch to your mod I may lose my connection between the two and perhaps lose this functionality for future posts. Currently a post is automatically generated from the main page and place on the forum and user comments are automatically posted on the forum and the main page, in that specific wordpress post.

Avatar calls and other function calls – I currently call to a few functions in WPU to see if the user is logged out or logged in. In addition, I also display the user’s avatar on the top. Furthermore, I can also display the latest forum posts. Do you currently have any function calls or anything for the website designer to implement on their page?

Further Expansion – The wordpress united mod I used has problems with other plugins and it is lacking some features. For example, I cannot quote, edit, and delete comments from wordpress. In addition, plug-ins like facebook connect and more do not work. Does your mod have any plans for more features and can you easily use other WP and phpbb plug-ins with this mod?
    _________

If you check my website out you will notice that I have taken a bit of time to utilize certain functions provided by WPU. I don’t expect these function calls to be the same in your mod, but I would expect some similar freedoms and abilities if I were to upgrade to your mod. If not, I would be taking a step backwards. There are quite a few individuals who have already established their website with WPU and easing these tensions may benefit you as the creator of WPU has disappeared. WPU users are simply looking for something with support, functionality, ease of use, and features.

I apologize if I am sounding a bit harsh. I am probably prematurely comparing your mod to one that has been around a bit, but I am just worried and I am concerned about making the switch. Thank you.

P.S. The fact that you got the whole thing working on the wordpress end is awesome! A lot of WPU users may switch if it’s not only easy to use, but easy to transition to ;).

    Hello !

As I read your post I see that you worry for many things 🙂 😉

First of all we have create a plugin that is installed on WordPress and not on phpBB, and we use to call it Plugin instead of mod 🙂 😉

    Now about your questions:

Existing cross posted forums and wp posts – I am afraid if I switch to your mod I may lose my connection between the two and perhaps lose this functionality for future posts. Currently a post is automatically generated from the main page and place on the forum and user comments are automatically posted on the forum and the main page, in that specific wordpress post.

This feature is not yet available in our plugin, but maybe in some other version we will use it.

Our plugin support all of the futures you already described above. The login/logout are all made by the phpBB and then the wordpress get this information too. The plugin is accompanied with several Widgets that are responsible to display user info, avatar, special links to forum (such us user control panel, moderator control panel and more), and latest topics from specific forums depending on your needs, because you can choose how many topics to display and from which forum id’s

As we know, there is no problem with other plugins yet. We currently have use it in our blogs and work fine even with other plugins.

For more information about the WP phpBB Bridge features you can read out post in http://www.wordpress-gr.org/downloads/download-plugins/wp-phpbb-bridge/

Thanks for the reply. Sounds good. Hopefully, you guys add in cross-posting. At the moment I plan to stay with WPU .85, but if you guys keep it up I’ll be glad to switch over ;).
