   will this plugin make search engines like google not indexing my site/post/images? or is it allowed to "mask" links?

   is "masking" a link exactly the same as nofollow?

   no

   and nofollow is not:noindex

   and masking a link doesn't avoid indexing

   robots.txt and noindex

   Masking is ~same as nofollow for links, but more certain - that's all.
   It won't affect indexing of your site.
   As Monika said, for noindex you should use tag noindex or declarations in robots.txt
