[Plugin: WP Multi Network] How to map subdomain?
-
I’ve been trying to get this to work all day but I can’t. This is my situation.
I have WordPress multisite installed at DOMAIN.COM. I want to create a separate network at BLOGS.DOMAIN.COM. The separate network would be able to add new blogs by subdirectory (e.g. BLOGS.DOMAIN.COM/BLOG1)
I have installed the multi network plugin (I just uploaded it into the mu-plugins folder). I created a new network under the Super Admin >> Networks administration page. I created BLOGS.DOMAIN.COM
I created another TEST blog and placed it under BLOGS.DOMAIN.COM by using the plugin. Now, I know there must be some DNS settings that I need to change. So, after googling around, I created a CNAME record for BLOGS.DOMAIN.COM
My domain is registered under Namecheap and hosting through Godaddy. I am using Namecheap DNS servers and my current records are
@ SERVERIP A(Address) 1800
www SERVERIP A(Address) 1800
SUBDOMAIN1 SERVERIP A(Address) 1800
SUBDOMAIN2 SERVERIP A(Address) 1800
BLOGS DOMAIN.COM. CNAME(Alias) 1800The SERVERIP is the IP of the server that I am using from Godaddy.
SUBDOMAIN1 and SUBDOMAIN2 are separate subdomains not related to this installation of WordPress multisite.Originally, I had created a wildcard A record so that instead of the SUBDOMAIN records, I had
* SERVERIP A(Address) 1800
BLOGS DOMAIN.COM. CNAME(Alias) 1800However, this caused BLOGS.DOMAIN.COM to continually redirect to a forbidden page (any random subdomain would also do that). But now, by deleting the wildcard and setting up SUBDOMAIN1 and SUBDOMAIN2, BLOGS.DOMAIN.COM doesn’t even work (it’s not found).
What am I doing wrong?
