Can specific file/media types be restricted? (4 posts)

I am looking to create a login section on a website I am working on for a client. Specifically, they need to have order forms be available ONLY to registered users. I understand that it is possible to block posts and pages but can it also be used to block specific media types like pdfs? My concern is that although the page that lists the downloadable pdf forms can be blocked does that mean that the content linked off of that page will also be blocked? I am worried that if someone, somehow, figures out the URL to a pdf form they could still access it without even going to the blocked page that the link exists on. Thanks in advance!

That's not really what this plugin does - you are correct, only registered users would be able to get the link, but that wouldn't prevent direct access.

However, there's probably equal operational risk in that it's just as easy for someone to save the pdf and share it directly.

Okay, I figured that was the case but thought I would ask.

One other question though… I have setup my own php templates and editable regions for my WordPress theme. I do not use posts or comments at all, only pages (it isn't actually a blog, just a website setup through WordPress to act as a CMS so it is easier for the client to make edits). That being said, do you think the WP Members plugin would be a good fit for a WordPress site that is setup in this way? I am thinking that I will setup a page that has the restricted document downloads and really that would be the only page that would need to be blocked. Everything besides the document downloads page would be public. Thanks again!

Well, the plugin blocks pages and posts separately, so as long as you are talking about blocking content that is within the WordPress Loop, then yes, the plugin will handle that. There are others that are using the plugin in the way you have described.
