Is it possible to import a list of members along with admin defined credentials (firstname, lastname, email, username, password)?

Sorry for the delayed response. Didn't see this as it was not tagged.

While WP-Members does not have it's own import functionality (although that would be a good feature - I'll add it to the project list), there are a number of other plugins out there that are specifically for user import/export.

Also, you could do it programmatically with PHP or MySQL as long as you followed the structure of the user table, and the user meta table for additional fields. Note: imported passwords would need to be properly encrypted as well.

I know this is an old post, but did you ever get anywhere with adding an import function? My situation is that I have approx three hundred members from an old system that I need to transfer into WP. I've defined all the custom fields I need using WP Members, but now need a way of importing (maybe by CSV?) all the existing data into the WP Members fields - my custom field names tie up with the old data, but that's about as far as I've got. If anyone reading this has any ideas, I'd be very grateful for a steer in the right direction.

Michael - I am working on an import module, but it is not complete. I should have something soon (within the next couple of weeks). I am wrapping up the 2.6 release (currently finishing up a bug fix release) and have a few support issues pending. Once that's cleared away, I can probably finish it.

Thanks, Chad. I did manage the import using a plug-in called 'Import Users From CSV' but it was not an unqualified success! Looking forward to your next release!

Oh - hope you don't mind if I ask an unrelated question: Should WPM install some new capabilities? I notice I don't seem to have any, but I'm not sure whether that's to do with my WP installation or the plug-in?

There are a few import tools out there already, but the trick is the user meta data.

WP-Members does not install any additional capabilities (although, there might be some expansion ideas there)... It assigns users the default role, which in most cases is "subscriber."

OK, thanks. Does that mean I can't allow any of my users to administer WPM? I notice that if I logout as admin, then log back in as A User and go to the dashboard, I don't get to see any of the WPM menu options, so I guess that's so?

Actually, just the opposite is true. Since WP-Members doesn't worry about role (other than assigning the default role when the user registers), and users are stored within the WP user framework, you can give any role and capability to any user. (Although if you need additional capabilities for roles, that would require a different plugin.) So if you have a user that you want to be an administrator, you can change their existing role through the user detail page in the WP admin.

Thanks Chad - got that. I do have some more questions, but I guess I ought to start another post, really...
