Feature Request: add a filter to modify $start_number (1 post)

I'm building a site that has multi-page articles. At the bottom of the page we list the footnotes, and then the page navigation. I've also installed a plugin called View All Pages which adds a "View all Pages" option to the page navigation.

If the first page has 12 footnotes, the client sticks this in the editor to start the next page: <!--nextpage--><!--startnum=13-->

Which works great, except that when you "View all Pages", the footnotes start at 13.

The only change I'm requesting is to wrap the $start_number in a filter like this: https://gist.github.com/2718901

I can then write a filter that resets the start number like this: https://gist.github.com/2718906
