[Plugin: WP-EMail] Serious Problems With Coding Quality -- Warning to Developers (2 posts)

However, it has serious compatibility issues with other plugins (in my case XLanguage). I am used to dealing with this, and am usually not afraid to get my hands dirty with code. However, what I expected would be 30-60 minutes of finding a workaround turned into many hours of bug hunting. The code of this plugin is undocumented and at times obscure. I'm not sure if the things I struggled with are bugs, but that by itself means the code should be largely rewritten.

This is just a warning that to other developers that the code wasn't written to be read by anyone except the author. It's probably not worth your time. I don't know if there are any other plugins for WordPress that are simpler and are easier to debug. Next time, I'll just use Drupal, which has quite a few stable ones to pick from.

That being said, this plugin is quite ambitious, and when it works, it's great. The author has clearly put a lot of work into it, and I'm grateful for his contributions to the community.

The code has been there before even WP was borned, it was ported from b2 and hence it is messy, I don't have the time to rewrite it.

I don't have the habit of documenting everything because it requires time. Even for WP, the documentation comes from 3rd party.

Bare in mind that this is a free plugin and I am the only one doing it and this is one of the 14 plugins that I have.

My aim is to make it works. There are too many plugins out there till the point I can't really be bothered with plugin compatibility. I know most of my plugins have problem with language plugins because of the static templates used.
