[Plugin: WP e-Commerce] Update causes problems (48 posts)

The update totally wacked out my site. I have a very simple set up for my site and the update still crewed it up. In my case, pages simple don't show even though they are there in the admin view. I tried to register to use the support forums but their site never emails the password so it is a no go there. Very frustrating.

Hi, are you seeing 404, empty page or is it just white screen? Could you post a link to the website?

The pages are empty, I do not receive a 404 error. I suspect the issue is with permalinks, I am just not sure how. Still trying to figure it out.

I've tried a few times. The pages actually work if I set it to the default setting.

It works for me - I did have to refresh my permalinks though :)

I wonder if it is a settings issue on your server. Hopefully you and the team get to the bottom of this.

I tried refreshing and no luck. Thanks.

Is there a way to manually update the permalinks? Perhaps a plugin? Anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

I have exactly the same problem. All pages on my site are now empty. I have deactivated the plugin but it has not helped, all pages are still empty.

Sometimes, clicking on a link to a page will not even take me to the blank page, just reloads the home page.

I had refreshed permalinks but that didn't do anything.

So I went into Permalinks again and simply hit 'save'.

Reactivated the plugin and it all seems to be working again.

My backups did not fix the problem. Fortunately I still have the data (I hope you do as well, maybe just not showing). Now, just trying to find a way to get it to show.

I don't think we will get much from this post anymore. The support for this plug in is spotty at best, but if I find a solution I will post it.

I had similiar problems and ended up just backing up to 3.7.8.
It's going to take a bit more work than I thought to modify my old store theme to work for 3.8.

I have spent the last several hours trying various solutions with no luck. I can't even manage to post anything to WPEC's forums because when I register it doesn't send an email.

I have made another post to see if someone else might be able to provide some assistance.

It would truly suck to have to start over from scratch. I am glad to hear you backing up soled your issues.

Horrible technical support and assistance even if you pay.

    Martin,

Spamming all the forum posts by saying the tech support is horrible isn't helping you, them, or anyone else. If you're frustrated with the support, email them directly, tweet @danmilward, email me - do something proactive instead of reactive.

I am having the same issues - Update killed my site and having to retrieve the database backup and revert back via replacing the db tables from my back up and site files via FTP - crossing my fingers to see if it works!

Does anyone know of a better solution?

    Hi ksteele36,

Just helped someone who had a problem with disappearing products, was able to help them in about 5 minutes time.

Feel free to email me at office at zaowebdesign dot com with admin access and I'll be happy to see what the issue is.

@JustinSainton Thanks for the offer to assist. There seems to be enough people with this problem it would be helpful to share a solution here. Is there any information I can provide to help you help find a solution? Right now, I am trying to figure out where I can manually update permalinks so I can move forward. Short of that, I might just scrap the whole thing and start over which would suck.

You mentioned to @Martin Vecchio that he should email GetShopped directly. Do you know their email? I tried to sign up to post to their forums but I never receive an email with my password.

    Thanks

    Hi jstearn,

I'm one of the lead core developers for the WPEC project, and it's Saturday in New Zealand where the rest of them are - so I'm probably your best bet for support today ;) Happy to help you work out whatever issue is occurring, just email me at the email address I mentioned with admin access and I'll take a look to see what's happening. You should never have to touch the database to update permalinks.

And once we work out the issue, we can post the answer here for all to benefit from :)

Thanks for the quick reply Justin - which info are you speaking of? I'm assuming phpmyadmin, but also thinking maybe just the WP admin?

@jstearn - Yours is the travel doc site, right? Super sexy site.

Check it out and let me know if it's all fixed. If it is, and it appears to be, here's what I did.

    1) Deactivated all plugins, including WPEC.
    2) Changed permalinks to the default ugly version.
    3) Saved permalinks a few times.
    4) Activated all plugins, one by one.
    5) Activate/De-activate/Re-activate WPEC 2-3 times.
    6) Change permalinks to Day/Name
    7) Save permalinks a few times.

Sounds crazy, but that seemed to work. Again, please reply back and let me know if it's all working.

Haha, may have spoken too soon - re-investigating.

did you happen to clear the site cache somewhere in there Justin?

Interesting - not sure if it's a WP_Rewrite class bug or a core WPEC bug - but essentially if you save the new permalinks ONCE, pages work, but products don't seem to very well - if you save them TWICE, products work but pages return 404.

Going to dive into the permalink code to see what I can work out.

Mine is a non-standard theme and may be a bit more complicated than all that - I hope you can help.
