I've put together a website for the independent record store I work for, which you can find here...
It's self-hosted (WordPress 3.3.2 right now), and I'm using a child theme of Twenty Eleven -- only slight modifications, as I'm still learning my way around the WP interface. Haven't had any problems until I tried installing the WP e-Commerce plugin yesterday...
I installed the plugin. Under the Presentation tab, I told it to go ahead and include all of the .php files, too. That's all I did, right?
I didn't plan on actually using the plugin just yet. I wanted to get it in place and tinker with it before putting it to use. So after I did that, I went to go look at one of the pages on the site, and no matter what link I clicked, it went to the empty products page.
Uh oh.
So I deactivated the plugin. Now instead of going to the products page, the links just went to the front page. However, I DID notice that my bbPress forums still worked fine. (I'm using bbPress bbPress 2.0.2. with the default styling.)
I uninstalled the plugin. Same results. I went into the folder for the child theme and deleted all of the .php files that I'd installed. Same results.
Even typing in the URLs to my pages sent me back to the main page. Crap.
So I went into my Pages area and tried to access the pages via the "View Pages" links... still nothing. Panic began to set in.
Then I noticed the Products Page was still in the Pages area. I deleted it. AH HA!
The site's behavior went back to normal after that, and has been fine ever since.
Can anybody shed light on what the heck happened? Was I an idiot for throwing in the .php files? Or is it part of the bugginess that tends to go with WP e-Commerce, going from what I've read?
I'm not intending to try using the plugin again until I've installed Backup Buddy or something similar, just in case something like this happens again and I can't reverse it.
I'd like to use the plugin, as I've heard that once you figure out the quirks, it's quite powerful. So any thoughts or suggestions would be much appreciated. Or if you think I should try a different e-commerce plugin, those suggestions are welcome, too... I'm open to all ideas, and want to do what would work best for the site.
Thank you for your time!
