   If I may offer some suggestions ...

   1. Add an option to choose (or simply not have) a separator character, currently the "|" character; or, wrap the separator in it's own container to allow it to be specifically styled.
   2. An alternative is to make the display of the separator character be dependent upon both an Open All and a Close All phrase existing.

   Just a couple of ideas ...

   I made the separator optional, configurable and gave it some CSS-selectors in 4.3. http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-dtree-30/
