You can do this on a WP blog, you’d just not be using WP’s tag cloud functions, but a static XML file that’s pretty easy to edit.

I want to install this plugin but am on WordPress 3.04, which has not been tested with the plugin. Do you have an update coming?
Also, I’m very interested about the custom static XML file; am I correct in understanding that by using the basic structure of Cumulus without WP and inserting it into a page via code (instead of plugin) it can still be used with WP?
Is there any chance a variable can be added for a background graphic?
Can you direct me to anywhere in the wordpress community where I could get step by step instructions for how/where to insert snippets and control paths?

I have a guide about using Cumulus without WP at http://www.roytanck.com/2008/05/19/how-to-repurpose-my-tag-cloud-flash-movie/. It’s not a step by step instruction for use with WP, but it should be able to get you started. There are downloadable example files too.
Oh, and it works flawlessly on 3.0.4 and 3.0.5, I just haven’t updated the readme to reflect that.

A great paid version of the plugin would be a musician’s version: links in the cloud generated from song files and a screened back image of the album cover would show underneath.
