    Hi,

first of all: thanks a lot for this plugin, it perfectly does what I need for my blog.

Still, I’ve got a tiny problem concerning the preview picture. It’s not quite clear to me what the difference between the “featured picture” and the “custom field” is and how I can use the custom field. Ususally, I want one of the pictures included in the post to be shown in the automatically genereated facebook entry.

This works mighty fine as long as I post only one picture at a time via the web interface or the official WordPress app for iOS. If I try to use another app on the iPhone (BlogPress), the automatic post gets still sent to Facebook and Twitter, but in this case the Word Social logo shows up instead of a preview picture.

Would the “custom field” be of any help to me, if I understood how it works? 😉

    Thanks in advance!

    Hello!

Actually, for the preview image, here is how it works :

    – If you choose the “featured image” in your WordSocial settings, when you publish a post, the system will try to get the image from it. If the system fails, it will try to find an image in your post and use that image as preview. If again, there is no image, at this time, the system use the default image.

    – For “custom field”, the process is similar but the first step is replace by the search into your custom field instead of “featured image”.

Now, what is the featured image or custom field ?

In the first screenshot (http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wordsocial/screenshots/), you see you can choose the way that the system retrieve the preview image (featured image or custom field, and if custom field… What custom field.)

Here, you can see how to set an image as featured image : http://en.support.wordpress.com/featured-images/#setting-a-featured-image (Your theme need to be compatible with this feature. Otherwise, you won’t see that option).

If your theme is not compatible, you can use custom field. Here is a video on how you can use “custom field” feature : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5CpAaHDzDpM

Of course, the name of the custom field into your post need to be the same as the one into your WordSocial settings. For example, in the screen above, I note “image_value” for the custom field. So I need to create a custom field named “image_value” into my post and with value the url of the image I want to use as preview.

I don’t know if it’s more clear for you now ?

I set up WS with a custom default picture of my headshot. I then decided to go back to manually posting links on Facebook and deactivated/deleted the plugin.
Now, the only thumbnail I can get from posts that have images is my headshot. It even tried reinstalling the plugin and changing the default image back to the one that came with it but still my FB links have the headshot from before.
I am happy to go and strip out the code myself if you tell me where to find it. I want to be able to choose a thumbnail from the post again.
    Thanks
    Katie

Please ignore previous. I figured it out 🙂

I try to connect to twitter or linkedin and something go wrong.

Here you have the error for linkedin:
    WordSocial Information
    2011-10-11 11:33:22 – LinkedIn : Request token retrieval failed
    2011-10-11 11:30:07 – LinkedIn : Request token retrieval failed

    This is by twitter:
    Woah there!

This page is no longer valid. It looks like someone already used the token information you provided

resolved with my server clock (it think to be in the future 🙂 )
