Great idea. I just noticed that even yslow/pagespeed have a problem with the smiley as the dimensions of the image are not specified…

So my question: will this plugin prevent the smiley from loading (which is what we will want) or just from appearing (which will be easier, but will still cost bandwidth and no-size penalty).

If it is the latter, can you add some height/width attributes to the image?

    Thanks

Hi Bike, it stops the image from appearing rather than loading.

The image is part of a JavaScript routine used by WordPress.com to measure your site traffic, basically it has to return something so they return a smiley face.

Unfortunately, there’s nothing I can do about what is returned but I can hide it with this plugin.

    Thanks Chris,

I guess I will just take the stats out; they seem unreliable anyway, and it saves one more dns lookup, one more js and one less unspecified image size!

    Cheers

Sorry Bike, wish I could have helped.
