This plugin doesn't seem to work - I get exactly the same problem as a number of others
It's been the case for several versions of the plugin, wordpress 2.7 and 2.7.1. The FAQ says nothing, the screenshots are out of date, there's no documentation and the authors are seemingly silent.

Really? It works perfectly for me on over 20 blogs - I have never had a problem. What exactly doesn't work? Did you follow the installation steps?
- Upload stats.php to your /wp-content/plugins/ directory.
- Activate the plugin through the 'Plugins' menu in
WordPress.
- It will ask you to enter your WordPress.com API key, do so.
- Sit back and wait a few minutes for your stats to come rolling in.
See the third step, about the WordPress.com API key? Did you do that? That is a required step of course. If you have done all of these and still don't get anything tell us where it goes wrong for you.
Sorry, I am at work and can't access the link you included in your post. Besides, it it really were a problem with the plugin, why don't those people report it here?

Yes, I entered my API key and it goes wrong in exactly the way described on the link I provided. I referenced this because it saves me producing screenshots etc....
Why didn't these people report it here? Ultimately you'd have to ask them.....
