Hi there, after all the latest wordpress ans wordpress seo updates the last week the wordpress seo plugin has caused my categories to create a 404 error. I enabled the plugins one by one, this is how i found out what it was, this has happened a few times before. I disabled the plugin for the time being.

I now have allinone seo installed as a temp fix, I got this email from google confirming this, any ideas why it happened?

Dear owner or webmaster of http://city-handyman.co.uk/ While crawling your site, we have noticed an increase in the number of transient soft 404 errors around 2012-06-23 02:00 UTC (London, Dublin, Edinburgh). Your site may have experienced outages. These issues may have been resolved. Here are some sample pages that resulted in soft 404 errors:

Hi, same here using wordpress seo plugin 1.2.5 we noticed it caused 404 errors on category pages. Aftaer disabling the plugin and and removing our permalink back tod efault it strted working again.

We have now added /%postname%/ back to our permalinks and it is still working but without WordPress SEO. We will use as you suggest Steve allinoneseo plugin until this issue has been resolved.

    Thanks

yep my sites are having the same issues, saying page not found. I unchecked strip the category in the plugin and the category shows up in the domain string and the page is back. not my desired functionality but will wait for the fix. Love the plug in, hope to have the fix soon.

I have disabled WordPress seo and have installed a different one called Seo ultimate, it tells you if there are 404 errors with your site. After a couple of days my site started playing up again, I have found by disabling some plugins it is ok, maybe the latest WordPress or our webhosting packages can't handle too many plugins, so far so good for me on the latest seo plugin

:( I unchecked the 'strip category' option and everything started worked fine again, but I return few hours later and now I am getting 500 server errors for all my category pages!
Edit : Ok, gone back to standard 404's now :)

@keatsseven: Go to SEO -> Settings page. Don't change any thing, just re-submit it. it should work. this is fixed issue for me.
