Titles not displaying correctly in serps or browser (1 post)

I'm using the Weaver theme, along with Yoast SEO. In Yoast SEO->Titles, I've tried setting the Force Rewrite, and also replacing the <title> tag with <title><?php wp_title(''); ?></title> in header.php.

    The current settings are:

I've left the Weaver theme's original code in the header.php (because it had no effect before).

    "Force rewrite title" is ticked.

    The Post Title Template is:
    %%title%% • %%sitename%%

    The Page title template is:
    %%title%% • %%sitename%%

I'm trying to ensure titles are displayed correctly in the SERPS. Currently there something like:

    "post or page nameSite Title"

….note the lack of space between name and title. I cannot see where in wordpress this is controlled, or why google would put the site title on the end without a space.

What I would like to achieve is:

post or page name | Site Description

    ….note the pipe in-between.

When viewing a page / post , at the top of the browser window only the page / post title is displayed.

The problem is (or, to my understanding) it's hard to see what the results are / will be once google gets around to re-indexing the site.

When performing site:www.sitename.com the results are very messed up due to duplicate content, old content, and this titles issue.

Any help /pointers would be much appreciated.

    Thanks,
    ck
