Before installing latest update I had 'Strip Category' base option selected and I could refer directly to a category in a URL. No those direct URLs not working and I can only access categories with /category/ in the URL. Is this known issue?
Thanks

Same issue here. Also blank pages on posts in categories. Seems to complain about out of memory error. Downgrading to 1.2.3 fixes it.
Same issue here.
Deactivate Yoast's plug-in wait a minute, and reactivate and it started working again for me.
When I applied 2.4 I had not yet applied WP 3.4.1. After updating WP when I switched this option back on again it worked, so maybe related to bugs fixed in WP 3.4. Anyway, seems to be working again now.
Same issue here, when someone clicks on permalink settings, all categories go 404. If you go to save the setting again, it fixes. but something is not right in this last version, the breadcrumbs in any subcategory page are resulting in a blank page.
For me at least, I was having to continually re-save the Strip Category option ever hour or so. After disabling W3 Total Cache I haven't had the issue again.
This was fixed in 1.2.5, sorry peepz :)
I'm on 1.2.5 and this is still happening. Every time I add a category or make any changes to the blog content, it resets. Neither clearing my cache or disabling cache plugin has helped, either.
Me too. 1.2.5 but all category links have stopped working...
Actually broke for me in 1.2.5
Same problem here with 1.2.4 and 1.2.5 but tags are also broken for some reason. When I deactivate WP SEO everything works fine. I'm not using any caching plugins.
Not working for me and no apparent fix since I updated to 1.2.5. Just spent a long old time writing lengthy redirects to avoid putting 80% through a damaging reindexing process.
Great plugin, first issue I've ever experienced - will simply hold back on update other sites.
Since the break, I've lost ranking in Google, traffic and revenue by about a third.
The Yoast SEO plugin was a great benefit up till now, however it's sad that the support isn't there.
I would gladly pay for this plugin if I knew that any issues were being actively worked on...
Joost is really good at updating people and responding comments when there are problems. I'm surprised this one hasn't been cleaned up quicker but let's not forget he provides his awesome work at absolutely no cost.
Daniel, get an old version of WordPress SEO, strip the category base again and Google will then reindex your old URLs and your traffic should come back to exactly where it was.
This is still happening to me also...
Nevermind... I did what others suggested and turned it off. Saved. Turned it on. Saved. All fixed.
Just happened to me today as well
Upgraded to 1.25 when it came out and was working OK up till now
Logged in tonight to Analytics having changed nothing on site all day, and 404 errors everywhere for all category pages.
Switched strip the category base off and saved then sitched on again and is now working.
But for how long? Really do not want to be checking for 404's all day.
It's a great plugin, really hope this issue gets sorted quickly
Yes - same problem here.
My solution is: Uncheck the 'category base checkbox', save, check the 'category base checkbox' again, save. Now it should work again.
For bugfixing: I noticed it breakes every time agan when I edit the description of a category.
Greetings from Germany,
Edward
That solution doesn't work for me. Categories and tags are both completely broken when I enable this plugin. Need to find an older version.
Using 1.2.5 same 404 for categories from time to time. Toggling strip category on off works for a limited time. The best plugin around, hope this will be fixed soon.
I've found that this works for me:
Echoing @EdwardBlack - Even the slightest change to any text on a Category page triggers the bug and the 404 errors for any category page.
The page can be found if the base /category/ is added back into the URL.
About to launch a site with 231 categories and was relying on WordPress SEO to strip out the /category/ for us. Would really like to see this fixed soon so we can launch and not have to use 301 redirects to fix links if we launch with /category/ included.
Hey you all might be interested in this. One another open thread about this issue, a guy named Ismael posted a fix.
I tried it and it works. It's another plug-in that strips the category base.
Agree with Miz.Michele - The "WP No Category Base - WPML compatible" plugin appears to work great.
Yoast - hint, hint... ;^)
The solution provide by EdwardBlack worked for me.
@Michael. Just an FYI - that had worked for me too - until I changed anything. If I made a post, added or edited a category - then the categories weren't working again. and I had to re-save permalinks. So if the one time fix worked for you that's great. It didn't for me.
I started to think I must be going crazy.
Also having the same issue. I get it working, then the next time I check, it doesn't!
Will try the stripping plugin.

WP: 3.4.1
Yoast SEO 1.2.5
What I expect:
Strip /category/
What happens:
Doesn't strip /category/ and leads to 404 pages. However, the original link that includes /category/ DOES work.
Problem Website:
Squarespace Plugins
Deactive, activate, SEO>Permalinks>SaveSettings
-- worked for me. Thank you!
Site: Healthy Mind Heart Body
