[resolved] Home 'Meta description template' not showing in Google (7 posts)

Is there a way to force this to show? At the minute Google is just showing everything in my header - so mainly navigation links. When adding a blog post it seems to replace the description with the blog post, but this isn't what I want! It just looks really messy, and I'd much prefer to be able to force the description I put in 'Meta description template' if possible.

Is there a way to do this? I know of a few large sites that have their blog posts on the home page and yet a simple description as their title instead of an excerpt.

    Thanks

No, you can't force google to show your meta description. Check out the FAQ.

I've read the FAQ, but why is it that with some sites with a similar setup to mine their meta description is shown and not excerpts from the blog posts?

If I could tell you that I would, but I can't. It's up to Google, not up to me :)

For everyone having problems with this, say you site is 'BigYellowCats.com' and you want to rank for 'Big Yellow Cats' in Google then just include 'Big Yellow Cats' at the start of your meta description and Google is far more likely to show the description instead of a blog post excerpt. My problem was I didn't give the big G time to update.
