I have to say I was more than pissed off earlier when I found out that by upgrading the wp-portfolio plugin, it wiped all main settings for the plugin and ended up taking new screenshots of all the sites. This meant that sites that are no longer alive or have had a dramatic change (and maybe not by me) are no longer the sites I added. Can you please oh please fix it so that upgrades no longer do this? Now i have to search my computer for old screenshots of sites i did years ago. I know I got the plugin for free, so i cant complain to be honest and I did recently make a small donation to the you (the author), but that doesnt mean I cant make requests (again, requests, not demands).

This is really odd, simply because I've not changed the setting names in a VERY long time with this plugin. Could you give me MUCH more information please? What version did you upgrade to and from what? Exactly what settings were lost?

With regards to losing your cache, I think this is because this is the normal behaviour of WP. When you upgrade ANY plugin, it deletes the whole directory first before installing a the new version. So this is not a bug with my plugin. The cache directory is in the plugin directory, hence why it got flushed when the whole plugin directory was removed.

A solution to this would be a way to have a cache directory within /wp-content/wpp-cache rather than /wp-content/plugins/wp-portfolio/cache/ - but it'll be a nightmare to migrate everyone on upgrade though.

Understood about requests and demands. Just understand that it's very demotivating when I do receive a lot of rude requests, and I have considered removing the plugin completely because of those comments/messages I get. Thanks for taking the time to spell out your request and emphasising it's a request.

Also bear in mind that any thumbnails are just a local cache, I make no claim that they are permanent. The plugin requires a URL for a screenshot, implying that it can get at it if it needs to.

Once your donation clears, I'll refund it, as it leaves me feeling uncomfortable.

Why does the donation make you feel uncomfortable? I wasnt sending it expecting support or anything like that because of it. It was a simply a donation, nothing more. I know you have been complaining a lot about users feedback. I just was trying to make it clear that I did appreciate your work, I have donated, and I do 100% understand that your plugin is free and no one should ever demand anything from it or you. BUT, there was NOTHING wrong with making requests/suggestions and obviously logging what we felt were bugs or design flaws. Its completely up to you with what you want to do with it. I can do nothing but appreciate any activity/changes on your part. Hope I clarified things a bit.

BTW, thanks for the heads up with how the WP plugin design works as that does make sense on what is causing the problem. Maybe give an option to allow users to specify a custom images cache path?

Yeah, I understand about feedback, thanks. Something that most people don't see is the emails I get every month, that's what I complain about. Not decent users like you.

A completely custom cache location is possible, but would probably cause headaches for users. I think I might add a setting to choose either location (mentioned above), making wp-content the new default.

I've got a long list of features to add to the plugin, so the next release is going to be a biggy.
