shortcodes within portfolio text no longer work (11 posts)

Hi. I've been using this plugin for many months now.

It used to support embedded shortcodes within the portfolio text detail field. The shortcodes no longer work, they just output as the actual shortcode on the screen. I've tried 3 different plugins with shortcodes and they all do the same thing.

I'm trying to put some collapsable detail within the portfolio using shortcodes from any one of a few different accordian plugins (I only need one to work), but none of them work within the portfolio now.

For now I'll need to remove the shortcodes from all of my portfolio entries, but that is certainly not ideal since it makes the portfolio page show too much information all at once.

    Thanks for your help.

    Hello (what's your name?)

    1) What triggered the change in behaviour? Did you upgrade WordPress?

    2) What version of WP Portfolio are/were you using?

    3) I wasn't aware that the plugin ever supported internal shortcodes. It certainly didn't intentionally. That might have been a random side effect and you got lucky.

    4) What's your website?

    5) Where are you adding the shortcodes?

I'm currently working on a new release of WP Portfolio to handle the STW changes. I can add shortcode support for a small fee if that's of interest?

    Kind Regards
    Dan

Hi, I'm Jeff. Thanks for the quick response.

    1) I'm not aware of any recent changes. I'm on WP3.1 for a while now. As is typical, there's a good chance it could be another plugin that I may have activated over the last several weeks though.

    2) 1.19 (not easy to find, would be nice to have it on the documentation page)

    3) Lucky for a while I guess. I was using the special-text-boxes shortcodes for collapsible divs.

    6) Will consider it...how small is acceptable for this kind of thing?

    Thanks,
    Jeff

    Hi Jeff

    2) The version is within the list of plugins. :)

Those pages are taking a little while to load, do you have caching installed?

Are you putting the shortcode into the description field? If so, it should be a simple tweak to add shortcode support.

I'll add the feature (once you've confirmed the above about where the shortcode goes). If you're happy, please consider leaving a donation, which is for any amount you're comfortable with.

    Kind Regards
    Dan

    2) sorry, should've looked there

Cache: No, I'm looking into it again though. I've tried WP Super Cache, then W3 Total Cache which I preferred, but had problems getting everything to work so gave up for a bit. Getting ready to try W3 again very soon, along with MaxCDN. I run many sites, a few with multisite with many different plugins and themes, so getting everything to play nice is not easy. But I know page load speed is a BIG issue I need to tackle. Also 90% of my visitors are new, so not sure how much caching would help anyway (although the other features of W3 like javascript compression and loading code into footer would be helpful). I also need to spend some time trimming down some other things and add CDN for as many elements as possible.

"Are you putting the shortcode into the description field?": Yes.

shortcode support: That would be great, I'll drop some coinage, please let me know once you have shortcode support working.

I was just cruising your site, very nice. I'm going to keep you in mind as a resource for any time I may get in over my head :)

I've been looking for a slider for months now that has the features of the one on your homepage, very nice :) Particularly the Highlighted Text at the bottom that acts as a descriptive Menu, and the floating Pointer is a nice touch. Looks like it is jquery loopedSlider? Their site says it is now "Slides" plugin ( http://slidesjs.com/ ). Did you try that version? More importantly, I didn't see any examples for either of these version that showed the bottom Menu & floating Pointer...did you have to mod anything to get the bottom Menu & floating Pointer? I basically want one to look very similar to yours, and might have to borrow some code or css :)

    Thanks much,
    Jeff

    Hi Jeff

Right, I'll get on with the shortcode enhancement. Should be in V1.20.

Thanks for your positive feedback. The slider was already part of the WooThemes template I based my design on: http://www.wpdoctors.co.uk/recommends/woothemes

    You kiddin'? That was FAST!

I'll give it a try shortly, then I'll pay up to the kitty.

    Thanks!

(Hey, any comments/advice on the cache stuff I mentioned?)

You're welcome Jeff. The donate button is available on this page:

With caching, if you're having issues, that usually means you have something going wrong. Extend the cache time to a few hours, which will help. Clearly this is only if you have a site with a low amount/frequency of changing content.

Hey Dan, the shortcodes work great!

Donation to the kitty on it's way...

BTW, I'm having trouble getting the STW screenshots to work (in the interest of time I'm just manually throwing in screenshots for now). I noticed this site's screenshots are broken also: http://digitalraindrops.net/directory/

Anyone else having problems with STW feature?

Thanks for the donation. You need to lock your STW account to your website, as documented by STW in their important emails recently.

I've tried updating the FAQ on WordPress.org, but the update isn't working. So I'll get a new FAQ up ASAP.

    Regards
    Dan
