[Plugin: WordPress Portfolio Plugin (WP Portfolio)] Fatal Error after upgrade

Shortly after upgrading to 2.5, my site crashed, showing the following errors:

Warning: DOMDocument::loadXML() [domdocument.loadxml]: Empty string supplied as input in /home/smdds/public_html/wp-content/plugins/wp-portfolio/lib/thumbnailer.inc.php on line 592

Warning: simplexml_import_dom() [function.simplexml-import-dom]: Invalid Nodetype to import in /home/smdds/public_html/wp-content/plugins/wp-portfolio/lib/thumbnailer.inc.php on line 593

Fatal error: Call to a member function children() on a non-object in /home/smdds/public_html/wp-content/plugins/wp-portfolio/lib/thumbnailer.inc.php on line 596

I have removed the plugin, re-installed, cleared the cache. Suggestions?
