[resolved] [Plugin: WordPress Popular Posts] WPP Trouble setting thumb sizes after update (6 posts)

    Hi there - Thanks for the plug-in btw :)

    Thumbs are showing so I'm set-up fine. i just want to set width / height ... have looked everywhere to resolve this!

    I updated to 2.1.5 after originally setting all thumb sizes to 15, 15 in the old version (2.1.4) and now I'm stuck with that size as there is no longer the drop-down options panel when "display post thumbnail" is checked. I want to change the thumb sizes globally I am having problems. I can't see where to access the size attribute.

    I can see thumbnail width / height is mentioned in your notes under CSS shortcodes but have no idea where or what to add. I'm relatively new to all this but am willing to get my hands a bit dirty.

    Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance - Deano

    Hi Deano,

    Due to security issues caused by a third-party php script called TimThumb, I had to remove it and with it the width & height settings had to be removed as well. On previous versions of my plugin, such as 2.1.4, WPP used TimThumb to generate all thumbnails and it allowed me to let the user customize the width and height from the Widget. However, now that it's gone you cannot longer set these options (at least not for now until I find a workaround for that).

    Please follow these instructions while I keep working on 2.1.6. Hoppefully, 2.1.6 should fix that and many other things that need some work.

    Héctor -

    Thank you so much for your reply. I'm glad in a way that I'm not the only one having problems but it must be a nightmare for you!

    I've looked at the coding work-around you suggest. The theme's functions.php file already contains the following code:

    ?>
    <?php // Post-Thumbnails
    add_theme_support('post-thumbnails');
    add_theme_support( 'automatic-feed-links' );
    ?>

    can I just add the:

    set_post_thumbnail_size(30, 30, true);

    after the second (or third) line

    or does it need to be exactly the same as your forum post word-for-word?

    If you could let me know, I think the other change to the wpp.php should be no problem for me.

    Thanks once again - Deano

    Hi Deano,

    Yes, you only need to add that one line after add_theme_support('post-thumbnails'). It doesn't really matter where, just make sure it comes after that one. That should do it.

    A quick update for everyone reading this thread: WPP has been updated to version 2.1.6 which addresses a few minor bugs and also re-adds the capability to manage thumbnails' width & height.

    The FAQ has also been updated with info about the usage of the thumbnails (and other stuff as well), so make sure you check it out.
