[Plugin: WordPress Popular Posts] anyway to add more variety to the chosen posts? (5 posts)

love the plugin, works like a charm

my one "problem" with it is that the selected "popular" posts become a self-fulfilling prophecy -- because they always appear as easy links, they always remain the most popular posts. it ends up "hurting" the appeal, as they never really change or offer variety.

im not exactly sure what a great fix for that is, as it's not exactly a bug or terrible problem or anything. just wondering if there was any thought to this, or suggestions?

maybe, say i choose to highlight 10 posts, there's an option to instead sometimes highly the next 10? (popular posts 11-20?)

or maybe if i display 10, its actually picking the from the top 20, at random?

does this make sense, or am i just rambling? :)

    Hi drkknght,

My plugin builds the list from the top 10 according to the stats that have been collected by it.

Personally, I like to set Time Range to daily to make it more dynamic. However, results may vary according to the type of blog, how often it gets updates, etc.

Anyways, I'll take your suggestion into consideration. If something good comes into my mind, you'll see it on the next release!

    Thanks for your feedback!

no worries - i absolutely love the plugin (and you're one of the few devs that actually keeps up with it!)

i know it's a weird request, just seems like once certain posts are established as "top posts", they stay that way forever (barring any random freak occurrence) simply because they're already listed as "top posts". eventually, daily, weekly, and monthly all have the same results.

again, i have no idea what a great fix for that would be, but... figured i'd put it out there. :)

Another thing you can try is to manually delete the cache table every now and then once you post a few new entries on your blog. That might give your newer posts more chances to be discovered by your day-to-day visitors ;)

    Just an idea...

P.S.: thanks for your words! I do try to keep up with changes to make WordPress Popular Posts' users as satisfied with my plugin as possible. While I know this can't be done all the time with everybody, I still try.
