I’m just setting this up for clients at the moment, so here is my two cent’s worth 🙂
========
OPTION 1
========
If you want your main website to ALSO be your mobile website, install the plugin in your main WP site. Tweak the settings, and then whenever someone lands on your website, the plugin will AUTO-DETECT whether they’re on a computer, a cellphone or an ipad-type hand-held device.
This option means all your content is available to all types of visitors. View the screenshots to see what mobile sites look like via the plugin:

In the screenshots, you can see a setting for Desktop Domains – use this is you have a separate mobile website, and want to tell it which one is the ‘main’ larger website.
========
OPTION 2
========
If you would like to have a smaller version of your website for your MOBILE WEBSITE:
— create a new sub-domain “m” which becomes m.yourwebsitename.com
— alternatively, create sub-directory “mobile” or “m” which becomes yourwebsitename.com/m/ or yourwebsitename.com/mobile/
— in this folder, install wordpress and WordPress Mobile Pack (edit settings as required – specify Desktop Domain as your OTHER larger website)
— create only those pages you wish to show your mobile visitors.
Why would anyone do this?
There are lots of reasons, but here are a couple:
— don’t have access to main website
— want to push specific info to mobile-only viewers and subscribers (create a new autoresponder & sign up for them)
— prefer to have a fast-loading, simple 5 page site for mobile viewers
— have a specific campaign you wish to keep separate from main site
Hope this makes sense!
Cheers
