Google Panda Penalty Because of Mobile Pack Plugin (5 posts)

Thanks for the great plugin. Have been using it for last one year.

But last month on 25th of June, my site was hit by the Google Panda Update 3.8. Since then, I am on a cleaning drive to phase out duplicate content from my website.

And to my surprise, I found that my site has thousands of duplicate pages, just because of this plugin.

For instance, if I search for site:mysite.com inurl:wpmp_switcher=mobile, I find thousands of pages, which are exactly duplicate of the original pages. Google considers them all duplicate pages, since all of them present the same content and accessible through two different URL's.

Now, I want to use rel="canonical" tag on all these pages, which are generated for mobile content. How to do that?

I have tried all tricks to get all these duplicate pages de-indexed from Google Index. Even tried URL Parameter in Google Webmaster Tools. All these efforts have not succeeded, and today my site is again punished in the Google Panda Update 3.9, released on 25th of July.

I also posted one thread on Google Webmaster Central Forum. Check it out here. http://productforums.google.com/forum/#!category-topic/webmasters/crawling-indexing--ranking/9iPI4zGXw9I

I request you to please immediately find a solution for this problem. The best method suggested is to use rel="canonical" in the header of all these pages.

Please let me know how can I use this tag in all the pages indexed in Google site:mysite.com inurl:wpmp_switcher=mobile.

Came on here looking for info on the same thing

I have a new client site to promote and they have this installed, it looks like a major dup content issue unless I am missing something that is going on in the background that solves that.

    Right now I see

    domain.com

    and

    domain.com/?wpmp_switcher=mobile

and both are showing the same homepage content which to me is a big problem

This post is helpful http://seosunite.com/f2/mobile-versions-site-how-make-sure-doesnt-mess-up-search-engine-optimization-632/. Resolved via robots.txt. Haven't tried myself yet so can't vouch for its effectiveness.

    sguader,
Thanks for pointing me to the thread about robots.txt.

In fact I had done the same thing about a month back. In addition to that, I added noindex meta tag also to these unwanted pages. But that didn't help. When all these pages are already in the Google index, blocking them via robots.txt will be counter productive.

You have to let google see them and add noindex meta tag. learnt my lessons the hard way. Now, these pages are slowly coming out of Google index.
