[Plugin: WordPress Database Ping] Hangs at install and then does nothing

I tried to install this to see if it would do anything with the issue i am having http://wordpress.org/support/topic/new-post-not-showing-on-recent-posts-widget-and-blogroll?replies=0 but on install when i clicked activate my page just hung showing loading for several minutes i finally reloaded to the dashboard manually and when to plugins and saw it was installed but there was nothing to select in the options of the plugin or nothing so the plugin appears to not do anyhting
